Dance and Media Japan's International Dance Film Festival, since 2003, is one of the first dance film festivals held in Japan.
The festival has been introducing outstanding dance films from around the world to Japanese audiences.
Selected works will be screened in Tokyo and then will tour around Japan.
Although the festival temporarily went online due to the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020, it resumed its face-to-face screenings in 2023.
To date, the festival has primarily selected and introduced dance films of a fictional nature.
This year, however, to explore a different direction from most dance film festivals, which often screen many short films simultaneously, we are calling for documentary films of 30 minutes or longer, in addition to the fiction films we have handled in the past.
In the Documentary section, we will focus on the actuality that emerges when dance and film are combined, as well as the raw incidents captured by the camera. We welcome submissions of documentary films that document events, people, and places related to the dance culture.
As "DOCUMENTARY & FICTION," we hope to discover dance films with a documentary nature alongside those with a fictional nature.
We welcome submissions from filmmakers of any background. We look forward to receiving submissions of films with dance as a central motif.
